History

The small community of Unionville was once centered around Unionville Presbyterian Church, until the sanctuary of the church was destroyed by fire in 1994. However, the fellowship hall was preserved, and the congregation continued to meet there until it became Unionville’s town hall in 2000.

In 1885, Unionville Institution was founded, and in 1910, the building was sold to the County Board of Education and was renamed to Unionville High School. It eventually became an elementary school in 1960. One of the town’s longest-lasting traditions is the Unionville Barbeque, which has been held annually at Unionville Elementary School since 1949. This event is quite popular and even serves as a reunion for former residents to return to their beloved hometown. In 2002, a teacher and her students at Unionville Elementary School designed the Unionville Town Seal, incorporating symbols representing community, education, agriculture, family, church and strength.
