Walhalla has a handful of private school options as well, such as Faith Christian School. While there are no institutions of higher learning in Walhalla, residents may easily access Clemson University, which is approximately 15 miles away in Clemson.

 

History

Walhalla was originally a settlement of German immigrants who left Hamburg, Germany and Bavaria. They first arrived in Charleston and were still in search of a place they could call home. A group of men, including General John A. Wagener, Claus Bullwinkel, John C. Henckel, Jacob Schroder, and Christopher F. Seeba, purchased 17,859 acres of land for $27,000 from Reverend Joseph Grisham of West Union. There are plenty of buildings in Walhalla listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Ellicott Rock, Keil Farm, Oconee Station and Richards House, St. John's Lutheran Church, Stumphouse Tunnel Complex, and Walhalla Graded School.
