History

This town may have a long history, but it was not always called Easley. Early settlers were known to call the community Rockville by the year 1791, and the name was changed to Pickensville shortly after. The railroad arrived to the area in 1874, sparking yet another name change for this small town. The railroad reached a nearby town called Easley just two miles away, causing commerce and business to move from Pickensville to Easley. In 1875, a new charter was granted to the entire area, adopting its current name.

In 1953, Easley Textile Company, later known as Swirl Inc., came to Easley, which brought many jobs for residents. This company created the “Swirl” wrap dress, which was a successful and much-needed boost for the local economy. And in 1956, Saco Lowell, a manufacturer of yarn production equipment, built a plant in Easley. At this point, the infrastructure of Easley began to expand, as the construction of US-123 brought new business into the city.
