Outdoor living has been trending upwards for years, but thanks to the pandemic, having a space to entertain and relax outdoors is now one of the most sought after ameneties with home buyers.

Designed to help home sellers play up their home’s outdoor living potential, Fixr recently surveyed Real Estate Agents to pinpoint the biggest outdoor living preferences.

Here are the biggest outdoor living trends, according to Realtors.

#1 A place to visit

Eighty percent of the survey participants agreed, a place to gather is the top priority. Use this information to your advantage as you prep your home for sale.

At the very least, you need to stage your outdoor area. Inviting furniture, big bright flower pots and fresh flowers, a bar cart, and even a patio fire pit will all go a long way at helping buyers visualize what your space could be.

#2 Outdoor kitchens

Besides having a space to enjoy some al fresco dining, an outdoor kitchen is the most in-demand feature. Typically averaging homeowners about $13,000, outdoor kitchens are a smart investment–paying off big time when you do sell.

#3 Porch and patio

The survey revealed a whopping 48% of future homeowners are most in search of the combination of a porch and patio.

Averaging around $20,000 to add a porch and $5,000 to add a patio, if your home lacks one of these elements, it might be something to think about saving for.

Surprisingly, the next desirable combination on the list was a porch and deck.

#4 Folding and sliding doors

Yearning to blend outdoor and indoor space, folding and/or sliding doors are becoming more and more popular, according to real estate pros.

#5 Year round enjoyment

Keep the party going even when the temps cool down when you add an outdoor heater or fireplace to your space.

Over half of the survey participants said an outdoor heater was preferred over outdoor fireplace and typically costing around $300, it’s a good investment.
