Straight out of the gate, Audrey Deatherage is the front-runner for guiding her real estate clients down the homestretch.
The Lexington, Ky., native bleeds blue - University of Kentucky blue, not Carolina - but has been at home in Charlotte for 35 years.
"I'm not your typical real estate agent, because we haven't moved since we got here."
She and husband Wayne live in the same South Charlotte home where they raised their two children.
"I know what it means to pick up a family and move or transfer."
When she arrived with two little children and dog after her husband's job brought them to the Queen City, she didn't know another living soul.
But she found it's a beautiful place to raise children, and now enjoys watching the joys of her world, her three grandchildren, growing up here, too.
"Charlotte is just the right size with culture and theater, professional and other sports, it's very diverse. It's a great place to be."
Her other joy is finding people their perfect home.
As an Allen Tate Realtor for 20 years, her experience in the industry and expertise in the area is lengths ahead.
"I'm no different from anybody else. I work hard for and care about my clients."
She's all out in the quest to find a buyer their home, "like a scavenger hunt. I love taking people out."
Or, getting a home ready for sale.
"When selling a house it's important to set it in the best light to make your home sell. Even pictures can make a difference."
Audrey also is about the details. Before becoming a Realtor, she worked on closings for a real estate attorney's office gathering all the information needed for the big day.
"I learned a lot you don't learn in real estate school."
She has found her niche in the South Charlotte, Union County and Lancaster County, SC, areas, where she fields many referrals.
Just as she won't miss watching a Kentucky Derby, she also wouldn't miss out on being in Charlotte.
"I like the fact that it's a growing city and love where the city is going."
While she enjoys visits to her home state and watching a race or two, she wouldn't want to leave the city that blooms and pops all year long.
The only time she leaves is to travel with friends, or her best friend and husband of 47 years to take in sites throughout the U.S. and Europe. At home, she enjoys tasting her way through old and new Charlotte area restaurants.
