James Litton Howard is a native of Danville, Virginia, and has lived in the Triangle since 1992. He graduated from Riverside High School in Durham in 1993, received his Associate of Arts degree from Durham Technical Community College in 1996, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1998. In 2005, he completed the Technical Communication Program offered through Duke University Continuing Studies.

Jamie, as he is known to family and friends, started building miniature dollhouses around the age of ten. His interest in real estate was evident by him making miniature “For Sale” signs and placing them in the front yards of those houses. The houses were not on the market for very long since he also made “SOLD” riders to place on those signs! Also, he decorated his room with real estate signs he collected from companies in Danville. By the age of 14, he had become so familiar with the Danville real estate companies that he could tell you not only which companies were the top performers but also the names of top performing agents!

At the age of 17, Jamie became an assistant to a Danville real estate broker, attending closings and helping write property descriptions. The plan was for him to become a full-time licensed real estate agent in Virginia after graduating from high school, but life had different plans… In the Fall of 1992, Jamie’s mother accepted a position at Duke University Medical Center and the family moved to Durham at the beginning of his senior year in high school. Being in unfamiliar territory, he decided to put a career in real estate on hold. He enrolled at Durham Technical Community College and after being praised for his writing skills, he decided to transfer to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and pursue a degree in English. His interest in real estate never dissipated, however.

In April 1999, Jamie received his North Carolina Real Estate Salesman’s license. Being young and having no money, he started working part-time for an educational assessment company in downtown Durham. The part-time job turned into a full-time position with benefits. Over the next 18 years, he worked his way up the corporate ladder holding positions of Technical Writer, Data Manager, Project Manager, and Proposal Developer. As a result of cutbacks, Jamie’s position was eliminated in January 2017. Jamie decided it was time to pursue his dream of a career in real estate and received his North Carolina Real Estate Broker’s license in October 2017. The knowledge and experience he gained through his various positions plus his love of real estate guarantees his clients can expect the most positive experience whether selling a home or buying a home. He is organized, methodical, flexible, and strives for perfection in an imperfect world. He also has a wonderful sense of humor and keeps people laughing!

Aside from real estate, Jamie’s passions include fiction and non-fiction writing: he is a novelist, an essayist, and a short-story writer. He loves cats, English and French Bulldogs, Boxers, Boston Terriers, Pugs, and Mastiffs. He supports the Animal Protection Society of Durham, the Georgia English Bulldog Rescue, Duke Chapel, and WCPE Classical Radio. He enjoys spending time with family and friends and vacationing in Asheville in the Spring and Emerald Isle in the Fall. A little-known fact is that he made an appearance in a movie filmed in 1993…
