Allen Tate, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Allen Tate, Jr.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

After more than 50 years in the real estate business, the "man behind the sign" still smiles when someone declares "I didn't know there was a real Allen Tate." But those familiar yard signs and legendary Tate customer service have made Allen Tate the name that defines real estate in the Carolinas.

H. Allen Tate Jr. grew up in grew up in Gaffney, S.C. and was educated at the University of North Carolina. In 1957, Mr. Tate (as he is affectionately known) took his father's advice to go to Charlotte, and opened a one-man, one-location real estate and insurance office. His vision was to create a one-stop, full-service company that could help a customer with every aspect of home ownership. Today, that vision continues as the guiding principle of the company.

Mr. Tate matched dedication to his business with a zeal for civic involvement, working with the Jaycees, Charlotte Chamber, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Commission and many other organizations. Before "giving back" was a corporate buzzword, Mr. Tate lived it, volunteering for boards and committees, all in the name of bettering his adopted community. His leadership in the real estate community is best exemplified through his service as a founding member of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World, the world's largest network of top independent real estate companies.

At an age when many of his contemporaries are enjoying retirement, Mr. Tate is actively involved in day-to-day operations at the company and embraces community initiatives including transportation planning. He enjoys Civil War history and spending time at the beach with his wife Bessie, four children and seven grandchildren.
